What happens when Mommy is out of the room...

My parents were here last week, and Robert and Dad watched Claire while Mom and I were getting ready for church. I'm glad she only weighs 18 1/2 pounds. :)

Exploring

Every once in awhile I forget and leave the diaper bag on the floor. Claire loves to methodically pull everything out and examine it - so I got some pictures of her fun.

Playing "telephone"

All that hard work made her thirsty!

New Car!

No, not for me - the 4Runner is still going strong (after 10 years)! A couple of weeks ago I was in Target and decided to see if there were any good deals in the toy section. I was so surprised when I found one of the Step 2 buggies for 75% off. I'd thought about getting one before but wasn't sure if it was worth almost $50 - at under $13, it was a no brainer to bring one home.

Part of our evening routine is to to walk to the mailbox and check the mail, so we decided to try it out on the mail run. Claire thought it was wonderful - she had the best time! She loves her car and protests every night when we get home and take her out of it. She sits up so straight and knows what to do when we say "Honk your horn!" She definitely thinks it's better than her stroller - such a great find!

Got the key and ready to roll!

Where are Nana and Granddaddy?

My parents came for a visit this past weekend, and Claire loved getting to play with Nana and Granddaddy. They left yesterday morning, and Claire seemed a little confused when she realized they weren't in the house that evening. Robert asked her "Where are Nana and Granddaddy?", and she took off down the hall to the guest room. The door was closed, so Claire started pounding on it. Robert opened it for her, and she looked in, then looked at us with a sad expression. Then she ran over to the bathroom, and she still didn't find them. I had to grab the camera - it was so sweet. We're looking forward to their next visit!

And So It Begins...

This morning I was getting Claire dressed, and when I went to put on one of her pairs of "school" shoes, she started to loudly protest. She then jumped up and started pointing at something on one of her shelves. I realized that she was pointing at her dress shoes (they're not fancy, but she usually doesn't wear them to school). She likes to play with her shoes, so I handed them to her, and she started trying to put them on her feet. I took off her other shoes to put on her nicer ones, and she started smiling and pointing at them. This is the first time she's ever showed a preference for clothing - should I be scared that it's starting so early?

Eviction

Dear Laundry Basket,

I understand that for the past year you've made your home in the cabinet in Mommy and Daddy's bathroom (see example below):

However, while you were on a visit to the laundry room last week, I discovered that this cabinet is the perfect size for a small 16 month old.

I really enjoy hiding and playing in your (former) space, so please find another residence immediately. Mmm-kay? Thanks.

Sincerely,
Baby Claire

Weekend With the Girls

Has it really been over a week since my last post? I was on a good roll there!

Last weekend we headed up to the DFW area. I was helping host a baby shower for one of "the A&M Girls" on Saturday, so Robert and I decided to make it a three day weekend. We packed in a lot! Robert had plans to meet some of his former co-workers for lunch at Twisted Root while Claire and I met one of my former co-workers and her two girls at Chuy's. I hadn't seen Brandi since before the move, and we had a great time catching up. Claire was enthralled by her girls, especially the older one who is almost 3, and she sat in her high chair for over an hour and a half before getting fussy. I couldn't believe I was able to have a long lunch!

We ran a couple of errands and then headed to Arlington to spend the night with Robert's grandparents. It was a short visit, but it's always good to see them. Saturday morning we drove to Allen for the shower and to stay with Courtney, Jared and Pierce.

Melissa's shower was so much fun. We had a dessert theme - look at that spread!

After Melissa's baby is born, everyone in our little group will be married with child/ren, so this may be the last shower for our gang - hard to believe! I failed to get a group picture, but I'll try to post one when I get it (Courtney/Melissa - can you send me one?)

During the shower Robert and Jared took Claire and Pierce over to the Crawfords for a Daddy Playdate. It didn't sound like there were too many tears, so I call that a success. Pierce was born the same week as Claire, and it has been wonderful to have such a close friend with a child the same age - I just wish we lived closer to each other! We loved watching the two of them interact (and I don't know how I managed to not get a picture of them together - oops!). Claire was enthralled with Pierce's books, and they both kept pulling books out for us to read to them - usually at the same time.

That evening all of the girls and families met up for dinner at Babe's. It was the first time in over a year that we've all been able to spend that much time together, and it's always warms my heart to spend time with these old friends. I miss you all so much!

Sunday morning we got up (early - thanks kiddos!) and went to breakfast at Breadwinners before Robert, Claire and I drove back to San Antonio. On our way home we stopped in Austin to pick up an enlargement from our photo session in May - I'll have to post a picture once we get it situated. We had a fabulous time - just wish it could've been a little longer!
