Another Milestone

In the past week, Claire has learned how to sit herself up:

You reach for what you want...

...then push yourself back...

...until you're sitting!

We're proud of her, but it has thrown an unexpected kink into the bedtime routine. When teaching her how to get from laying on her tummy to sitting, we didn't really think about the fact that she'd be able to sit herself up in her crib. Rookie mistake. Yesterday morning I woke up when I heard her start babbling and turned on the video monitor to see what she was doing. When I saw her sitting up and grabbing for the front rail of the crib, I dashed down to her room to grab her before she could pull herself up. Robert lowered the crib mattress down to the lowest level, so now if she manages to pull herself up she can't get out...yet...

After we put her to bed last night, we watched her for awhile. She would roll over, sit up, play with lovey, lay down, roll over, sit up, play with lovey, repeat, repeat, repeat... After about 20 minutes we stopped watching her, so I have no idea what time she actually went to sleep. She does seem a little more tired today, though. Hopefully she'll eventually figure out again how to put herself to sleep quickly.

ALL of Claire's new pictures are just darling, and I loved reading about her bedtime activities when she was supposed to be going to sleep. I can hardly wait to see all of the new things she can do (and hold her and play with her and ...).

I loved reading about all of Claire's new accomplishments. What a beautiful little face--so alert and intent on learning about things! You can tell she's really studying her toys.
Love you.
