Will's Nursery

The nursery is still missing a few touches that I want to add - mainly photos and a couple of shelves - but I don't want to wait any longer to share photos.

When you walk in, the armoire is to your left, and then you have the crib, his closet, glider (which you will all recognize from the chair pictures!), and dresser.

The dresser is from Ikea. We have a larger one in white from the same line in Claire's room, and it still looks good after almost 3 years of use. Love Ikea!

Dad and I painted the armoire shortly before Will was born. I really wish I'd taken a "before" photo - it was a major transformation. I've had the armoire since high school. The poly coating had yellowed, and the brass hardware had definitely seen better days. I replaced the knobs and handles and spray painted the hinges. So happy with how it turned out. Still need a photo for that frame...

The quilt was a gift from Lindsay, and will be moved once we stop swaddling him and he has use of his hands while in the crib (which is something that needs to happen, but I'm scared of how it might affect his sleeping!).

The prints above the crib are by Larry Stephenson. We got them at the Main Street Arts Festival the night we got engaged - we bought one of his originals to celebrate, and when the artist saw us admiring these prints, he threw them in for free. We always thought we'd eventually find a place for them, and now they are in our son's room. :) Robert and Dad did the custom framing job. We got some quotes and decided that we could do something ourselves. We found frames that were the right height, and Robert and Dad cut them down to fit. They did a great job!

I love his room and am happy with how it turned out!

Last weekend

This past weekend was our last one as a family of 3! Kind of hard to believe. We spent most of Saturday running some last minute errands, doing things around the house, and getting things ready for the baby. Claire is really fascinated by all of the baby equipment, and I think we may have a few fights on our hands. It doesn't help that she can still fit into some of the items. She finds the baby papasan chair that we just inherited from Team McCormick especially comfortable:

After church on Sunday, we drove to Austin so that I could got to a baby shower for my friend Jennie. Jennie is one of my friends from Dallas, and I was so happy that there was a shower close enough (and before my due date) that I could attend.

I can't wait to meet Baby P! Before the shower, we had time for burgers (and a hot dog for Claire) at Hut's and a quick trip over to Zilker Park to ride the mini train. The weather was perfect, and Claire loved waving at everyone we passed by. While I was at the shower, Robert took Claire on a little tour of the UT campus. I think it's time for a trip to College Station - she's getting a little too comfortable with Austin!

Robert and Claire picked me up after the shower, and we ran up to Ikea in Round Rock to try to find a chair for Claire's room to replace the glider that would be moving to the nursery. She enjoyed trying them all out, and we found one we thought would work. She seems to enjoy it - here she is watching Elmo in the living room before we moved it into her room:

It was a typical weekend for us, and it was so nice to get in some good family time before things get super hectic around here in a few days!

Cute baby stuff

It's a good thing this didn't come out while I was pregnant. So cute, yet so expensive...it would've been hard for me to resist!

Progress!

As of last Monday, I'm officially on maternity leave! I was SO ready. I haven't been sleeping well, so it was getting difficult to keep up mentally and physically all day at work. Mom came in to Dallas last Sunday afternoon, and we spent Monday and Tuesday cleaning the house (well, mostly Mom cleaned the house!), doing the baby's laundry, organizing the nursery, and running errands. It was a relief to get so much done before the baby arrives. Thanks, Mom!

On Wednesday I had an appointment with Dr. Woodbridge, and everything still continues to look good. Baby's heartrate was in the 130's, and I was about 1 cm dilated, so we're making progress! She thinks I'll deliver close to the 4/6 due date, but you never know. I'm having minor contractions more frequently and am having a harder time getting comfortable, but I'm not too anxious at this point.

I spent the rest of the week marking things off of my list and trying to get some rest. Robert's birthday was yesterday, and we spent most of the day looking for a bookcase for the nursery and working on our taxes. This typically would not be a fun way to celebrate your birthday, but we were surprised by the nice refund we're going to receive, so we were very happy to have that done. For his birthday, he wanted to go to the Reata in Fort Worth for dinner, so we enjoyed a great meal of chicken fried steak for me, steak for him, and dessert tacos for both. It was definitely worth the trip!

Nursery Progress

Robert and I had some serious cleaning out to do to make room for the baby. We decided to turn the guest room into the nursery and combine the office and guest room. December was busy sorting through things, cleaning out closets, and making trips to Goodwill - hope someone enjoys the couch!

Getting a crib was a bit of a saga - we initially ordered one online, and the one we got was damaged. After a second crib also arrived damaged, we got our money back and found one at a local store, Baby World. We love it, so everything worked out in the end! The bedding is from Pottery Barn Kids - they recently discontinued it, so I was happy to find all of the pieces we wanted during the post-Christmas sale. It was difficult finding something gender-neutral that we liked, but I'm really pleased with this set - and the price!

Mom came the weekend after Christmas, and she and I really enjoyed working together to paint the room. It's so cheery in there now - I love walking in and daydreaming about sitting in the glider rocking our baby.

Robert and I purchased a dresser from Ikea and ordered a glider which should be here in the next 6 weeks. We also still need to put up the curtains and start adding a few decorative touches - I can't wait to see everything come together!
