Will's Creations

Will loves to create, and I've been trying to take more photos of his masterpieces before they get taken apart and rebuilt into something else.  As I've mentioned before, he is really into dragons, so they are frequent subjects of his creations.  I love seeing how he takes random toys and objects and making them into something, or setting up little scenes with things he loves.

Dragons that are attacking the castle


The "found objects" dragon - body is a wrapping paper tube, wings and tail from a foam mat, and the eyes are sand art bottles from a pumpkin festival.


A dragon with a retractable sword.  I especially like the toothbrush stuck on top - he told me that was the dragon's spike, and that the popsicle mold is a fang.


A Boneknapper dragon (from one of the "How to Train Your Dragon" series).  In the show, the Boneknapper uses pieces of bones to assemble body armor.  The part at the top left is a wing - he ran out of pieces and then got distracted before he finished the other side.  The pieces at the top are its horns.

Will's Nursery

The nursery is still missing a few touches that I want to add - mainly photos and a couple of shelves - but I don't want to wait any longer to share photos.

When you walk in, the armoire is to your left, and then you have the crib, his closet, glider (which you will all recognize from the chair pictures!), and dresser.

The dresser is from Ikea. We have a larger one in white from the same line in Claire's room, and it still looks good after almost 3 years of use. Love Ikea!

Dad and I painted the armoire shortly before Will was born. I really wish I'd taken a "before" photo - it was a major transformation. I've had the armoire since high school. The poly coating had yellowed, and the brass hardware had definitely seen better days. I replaced the knobs and handles and spray painted the hinges. So happy with how it turned out. Still need a photo for that frame...

The quilt was a gift from Lindsay, and will be moved once we stop swaddling him and he has use of his hands while in the crib (which is something that needs to happen, but I'm scared of how it might affect his sleeping!).

The prints above the crib are by Larry Stephenson. We got them at the Main Street Arts Festival the night we got engaged - we bought one of his originals to celebrate, and when the artist saw us admiring these prints, he threw them in for free. We always thought we'd eventually find a place for them, and now they are in our son's room. :) Robert and Dad did the custom framing job. We got some quotes and decided that we could do something ourselves. We found frames that were the right height, and Robert and Dad cut them down to fit. They did a great job!

I love his room and am happy with how it turned out!

Due Date

April 6, 2008 has been highlighted on our calendars for many months now as our baby's expected due date. Seeing that it is after 6 pm and we are not on our way to the hospital, it doesn't appear that this will be our baby's actual birthday. :) We have an appointment tomorrow afternoon - hopefully we'll find out that I've made some progress since Wednesday!

40 Weeks:

The weekend has been pretty uneventful. We've mainly been relaxing and doing little chores around the house, and we went to an arts festival in Deep Ellum yesterday afternoon. Last year for Robert's birthday, I told him I would buy him a little sculpture by an artist we've seen at the Main Street Arts Festival in Fort Worth, Dick Cooley. He makes the sculptures out of metal scraps. The festival is held towards the end of April each year, and when we went last year, he didn't have what Robert wanted. The guy takes custom orders, but I never got around to contacting him. I found out a couple of months ago that he would be at the Deep Ellum festival this year and was hopeful that I'd be up to going. I'm glad we were able to go, because Robert found something we both liked - a tank (for those of you who don't know, he drove tanks when he was in the Army):
