Fiesta and Art Night!

Fiesta is always a big event in San Antonio, and Claire's school put on a Fiesta parade in May to celebrate.  Each student made a float, and Claire wanted hers to have a "Frozen" theme (not surprising!).

After the parade, it was time for the party!  They played games, decorated cookies, and enjoyed lots of goodies.


A few days later the school held its annual Art Night.  Each student had a special piece displayed that was made in art class.  Some of the older students passed out drinks and hor d'oeuvres, and you could buy your child's artwork, with funds going to support the art program.  We are so glad that Claire has a principal who is so supportive of arts and music in schools, and we were glad we got to participate.

Fiesta 2013

If you live in San Antonio, April means it's time for Fiesta!  We didn't attend any "official" events, but we made it to our favorite - the school parade.  Claire had a new float this year - her "Disney princess mermaid" float.  She picked out the decorations for her float and directed the base assembly before finishing it off herself.  Will requested farm animals.  Robert and I did most of the decorating for him, and he managed to disassemble quite a bit of it while waiting for his turn in the parade.  :)

Fiesta 2012

April always brings Fiesta to San Antonio - and to school.  Every year the school has a little Fiesta parade.  The kids (or parents, usually, for the younger ones) make floats and march around, the parents cheer, and each class has a little party.  Call it resourcefulness, or laziness, but either way, we celebrated the 3rd parade for Claire's Fiesta Float (we missed it in 2010).  It's looking a little worse for the wear after this year, but I think I may try to patch it together so that it will last through all 5 years at her school.  Or she can make her own, since Will is going to need one next year, too.  :)

Fiesta!

Today Claire's school held a parade to celebrate Fiesta. For you non-San Antonians, Fiesta is an annual celebration that pretty much takes over the city for 11 days. Claire did such a good job pulling her "float" during the parade, and she even was excited to wear her crown! She is usually not a fan of having anything on her head, but she loved her Fiesta crown and still wears it around the house fairly regularly.

After the parade, her class had a little party with tacos, queso, and other treats. She impressed the other parents with how much she was able to eat - she is small but can put it away. That's my girl!

Fiesta 2009

Fiesta is a huge city-wide celebration that happens every spring in San Antonio - it's kind of like SA's version of Mardi Gras. It stretched over two weekends, and we were out of town for both of them, so we weren't able to participate in any of the official events this year. Claire was in a Fiesta parade, though - at her school! They asked the kids to bring "floats" made out of shoe boxes for a parade last Thursday. Claire's float was a joint effort between me and Robert - he provided most of the creative design and fringe cutting while I was in charge of materials and assembly (good chance to put those dusty scrapbooking materials to use!). We thought it turned out pretty cute, and most importantly, Claire seemed to like it!

We weren't able to be there for the actual parade, but we saw a couple of pictures at school, and it looked like Claire had a good time in her first experience as a parade participant!
